Stupid women making bad choices with abusive men. That’s my one sentence synopsis for this book. Yet again, a mystery is compared to GONE GIRL because it has a hard-to-like protagonist. What everyone who makes that comparison seems to miss is that Gillian Flynn’s characters are interesting and she constructs them with great psychological depth. The women in GIRL ON THE TRAIN are just annoying. If I had a dollar for every time one of them says, “I know I shouldn’t do this, but….” I could retire in the South of France. On top of that, the pace is glacial. Nothing happens for chapters on end. I only finished because my book club chose this for our summer beach read. I’d still like a good summer beach read–any suggestions?
